Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service
Start / End Date: 2014 to 2020
This project has evolved from a small-scale feasibility study in 2007 to a fully integrated community-based health screening service.
The service is run by Children’s Health Queensland’s “Deadly Ears” with the support of Cherbourg Community Health Services.
Indigenous health workers in selected Indigenous communities are trained and provided with a fully equipped mobile telehealth vehicle. The worker can travel to surrounding communities providing routine screening of ear and eye diseases in local kids.
The COH is responsible for ongoing examination of the feasibility, costs, benefits and satisfaction with this novel approach to providing fundamental health services to Indigenous patients in Queensland.
