Health-e-Regions is a partnership between the Centre for Online Health, natural gas developer QGC Pty Ltd and the communities in Dalby, Chinchilla, Wandoan, Tara and Miles.
The project enables better access to specialists based in Toowoomba and Brisbane through the use of telehealth in various health service locations across the Western Downs region including hospitals, general practices, and residential aged care facilities.
Patients receive quality care and are saved the stress, cost and inconvenience of time spent away from home.
In the latest phase of the project, five schools have been connected by video-conference to allied health professionals in Brisbane.
Children requiring speech language pathology, physiotherapy or occupational therapy services can use an iPad or webcam to see a specialist, without leaving school or travelling to Brisbane.
The schools project is a collaboration between the Department of Education and Training (DET), Diocese of Toowoomba: Catholic Schools Office (TCSO), the UQ Telerehabilitation Unit, the COH and QGC.
