Co-presented by: Associate Professor Graham Grove and Associate Professor Andrew Broadbent.

In February 2016 the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services (GCHHS) Supportive and Specialist Palliative Care Service introduced their Community Palliative Care Telehealth Service to support patients nearing the end of their lives at home. This was in response to the limited staffing resources and burdensome inefficiencies in the traditional model of care which required either patients or doctors travelling to and from the hospital. Based on the success of the GCHHS Community Palliative Care Telehealth service, a statewide service across Queensland has been established, Specialist Palliative Rural Telehealth Service (SPARTA).

SPARTA is comprised of hub sites in Cairns HHS, Townsville HHS, Sunshine Coast HHS and Gold Coast HHS delivering multidisciplinary specialist palliative care to patients in rural and remote Queensland using telehealth The reach of this service has enabled specialist palliative care to be delivered to areas in Queensland where there were previously no existing services. This has facilitated many people achieving their wish of passing away at home or within their local community hospital. Associate Professor Andrew Broadbent, Medical Director of the Supportive and Specialist Palliative Services will discuss the GCHHS Community Palliative Care Telehealth service and Associate Professor Graham Grove, Medical Director of SPARTA, will present on the development and success of SPARTA.
