Project duration: 2021-2022, 2025 update
Funder: The Australasian College of Dermatologists
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability for computers to simulate human intelligence. In dermatology, there is substantial interest in using AI to identify skin lesions from images. Due to increasing research and interest in the use of AI, the Australasian College of Dermatologists wanted to develop a position statement to inform its members of appropriate use of AI. COH was commissioned to inform the development of this statement and in 2022 it was published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology.
Since then, the AI landscape evolved substantially, particularly with the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs). In 2025, COH was engaged to update the position statement, exploring key developments in AI driven by LLMs and the increasing use of AI scribes. This updated position statement was published in 2025, providing updated guidance for dermatologists in Australia.
