Researchers at the Centre for Online Health (COH), in collaboration with the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD), are continuing their efforts to ensure the safe and effective integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in dermatology.
The team has recently developed comprehensive guidelines for the use of large language models (LLMs) in dermatology, including tools like ChatGPT, which have now been formally adopted by the College. In addition, they have released specific recommendations for the use of AI Scribes, an emerging application of LLMs that transforms dermatologist-patient conversations into clinical documentation.
While AI Scribes offer significant benefits by reducing administrative workload, researchers caution that their use carries potential risks that must be carefully managed.
These new guidelines complement COH’s earlier work on AI computer vision models, reinforcing their commitment to responsible AI deployment in clinical settings.
