This project brought together expertise in telehealth research and evaluation (COH), telehealth service delivery (Metro South Health Telehealth Team) and health equity (Metro South’s Health Equity and Access Unit). We aimed to: (1) Determine which patients are and are not accessing telehealth services across MSH, (2) Design solutions in collaboration with consumers, interpreters, and healthcare staff to overcome identified barriers, and (3) Develop a "Telehealth for All" resource to support service providers and recipients to access telehealth-delivered care.
We found that people who require an interpreter were 66% less likely to use telehealth. We’ve been working with consumers, interpreters, and clinicians to devise solutions to bridge this gap. As one outcome of this project, we developed illustrations for healthcare providers in collaboration with a graphic design company which highlights how staff can increase access to telehealth in culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
