International leadership - DICOM Dermatology

23 Sep 2019

DICOM logoDr Liam Caffery has been appointed as chairperson of the DICOM dermatology working group. DICOM — Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine — is the international standard for all medical images. It defines the formats for medical images that can be exchanged with the data and quality necessary for clinical use (e.g. teledermatology).

The dermatology working group consists of ten members from the USA, Europe and Australasia, and will develop standards for advanced dermatology imaging such as dermoscopy, total body photography and reflectance confocal microscopy. These imaging techniques are used in Australia (and globally) for melanoma diagnoses.
