mHealth for diabetes care

January 2015December 2017

Centre for Online Health researchers are teaming up with the Australian eHealth Research Centre (a Queensland Health and CSIRO joint venture) to develop and implement a mobile phone app to help diabetic patients manage their condition. The app improves the quality and timeliness of blood sugar readings, giving immediate feedback in the forms of graphs, charts, and tables.

Patients’ data is uploaded to a secure sever, allowing doctors and nurses to monitor the results remotely. Patients can be contacted if there are any concerns about their readings. Recommendations to assist patients managing their condition can also be made through the app. Clinical trials are underway in the diabetic outpatient department at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The trials will continue as part of COH PhD candidate Anish Menon’s degree project.
