The Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID) was recently awarded the Aspire Scholarship Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research for their work on the early detection of melanoma.

ACEMID incorporates a multidisciplinary team  of researchers from UQ, including Professor Liam Caffery and Mr Adam Mothershaw from the Centre for Online Health, as well as collaborators from Monash University and The University of Sydney. They utilise 3D imaging technologies to screen for skin cancer and are conducting the world's largest preventive melanoma study. Implementing these 3D imaging technologies in regional and rural Australian towns is especially helpful for people who may not have as easy access to dermatologists as someone living in a major city.

The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are Australia’s premier science awards, administered by Australia’s first public museum (established in 1827). The awards honour prestigious Australian scientific discoveries, inventions, innovation and leadership. Judges of the Eureka Prizes are experts in their fields and come from universities, the media, research centres, industry, and government.

Congratulations to our COH staff that make up part of the ACEMID team! To learn more about what ACEMID is getting up to, watch a short video from the awards here.
