The Supportive and Specialist Palliative Care Service at Robina Hospital, Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (HHS) has joined forces with the Sunshine Coast HHS, Townsville HHS and Cairns & Hinterland HHS to establish a state-wide Supportive and Specialist Palliative Care Telehealth Service. This service connects palliative care specialists with rural and remote patients and their healthcare providers. It is expected this new mode of delivering palliative care will support people nearing the end of their lives at home, including those that would otherwise not have access to in-person palliative care services in the remote areas they live.
This research examines user perspectives, activity, and clinical outcomes of the service to inform strategic planning and potential improvements in order to increase user satisfaction and improve outcomes.
In 2024 the telepalliative care service received funding to implement at Grief and Bereavement service (SPaRTa-GBS). We are providing research support to assess grief and bereavement knowledge among staff across Queensland and undertaking an evaluation of grief and bereavement training delivered by SPaRTa-GBS.
